Developing Ideas for the Pitch

For the first idea for my FMP, I want to study 'Postmodernism in Architecture.'

This is a very vast concept as I have learned through reading many books on the subject so I need to think about narrowing the themes that I would like to explore.  I aimed for my FMP to follow directly from the 'Grids, Layers and Reflections' project that we did.

My ideas development for the FMP has been based on looking back and reviewing the work I did for the 'Grids, Layers and Reflections' project.  The idea to study Postmodernism came to me when I realised that a lot of the work I did during that process revolved around fragmenting and deconstructing images which is not dissimilar to Deconstructivist architects like Daniel Libeskind:

The extension of the Jewish Museum in Berlin is based on a distorted Star of David.  The building is an excellent example of postmodern architecture that is both beautiful and functional: it is distorted, fragmented and symbolic but the interior is (allegedly) directional so it still functions as a Museum first and a work of art second.
