Before I made the models, I did some perspective drawings of the parts I liked the most on an A1 sheet:
I decided that this one was the one that I wanted to work from:
First, I made simple masking-tape-and-card models to see what sizes and nets would be required. My first real attempt was with card and double-sided tape. However, the results were not to my liking as the tape was not strong enough to hold the curved shapes:
The second attempt I did with foam board, building the shapes up in relief. I liked the solidity of the models but not the ragged appearance:
For my third attempt, I decided to use card again. However, I wanted to stabilise the base and top of each shape so that the curves had something to latch onto. Finally, I used a glue gun as opposed to double-sided tape. The result was much more satisfactory:
