Developing old ideas

After I worked on that slotting idea:

I decided to take it further by attempting to make it more structural (in journal).  I picked out a section that I thought would be easiest to develop:

And then developed it:

I wasn't happy with the results.  I liked the way I layered the colours and the tree photographs but besides that, I don't think it works well in any way, let alone the way I wanted it to work.  It looked better standing up like this rather than simply sitting flat. 

It sort of reminds me of the Falkirk Wheel:

But it's not supposed to be a boat lift so it doesn't really work.
