Evaluation

Evaluation

For this project, I wanted to explore postmodernity, utopia and dystopia by looking at different shapes.  I feel that the earlier work – the small models based on work from Grids – were positive shapes that embodied the rigid structure and clarity that one would expect from a utopian world.  By comparison, my final project was based on negative shapes.  I think that the overall multifaceted appearance of my final piece reflects the undefined complexity that one would expect from a dystopian world.  I intended to use a variety of materials in this project which I did, even though I wasn’t suited to a couple of them.  I used Photoshop to inform my ideas; however, I didn’t take apart photos and reconstruct them as I wrote in my proposal.  This may have been due to the fact that I had already based a number of my Grids work on this notion – I felt that the idea was overused.  I think that looking into architects across a broad range of styles – Deconstructivist, Futuristic, De Stijl, etc. – was invaluable in informing my ideas and reasoning.  In conclusion, despite a few shortcomings, I feel that I largely fulfilled the aims of my proposal.
