Although the exhibition is on Wednesday, I still need to put the final touches on my final piece. However, I've finished all of my A1 sheets and photo mounts. In my journal, I wrote at length about the practical problems I would face when using card.
After testing the combination of the card and Unibond:
I started working on the real thing. I wrote a day-by-day summary in my journal as the development progressed. I started cutting the shapes on Tuesday and by the time I got to Saturday, the nets were more or less complete:
Even though I wrote this in my journal, I will mention it on here because it was a very important part of the design process. After the first model, it became clear that the small curves could not be stuck with either Unibond or double-sided tape. Instead, I used super-glue. Although it was a lot more difficult to rectify mistakes, superglue provided a quicker and neater result as far as the curves were concerned. By the time I started working on the final model, I used superglue (and the double-sided hinges that I had been using all along) as the new adhesive; subsequently, the time I spent making the model was cut in half.
I'm happy with the result so far ( though there are one or two elements of the appearance that I'm not happy with). If I were to attempt to do something like this again, I would definitely use super-glue. I considered using it at the start of the project but I was too scared of something going wrong since it is such a strong adhesive which leaves a very limited window in which to correct things.

In my journal, I've written about how I added a little more to the design, following the comment my mother made about it looking slightly plain in places. In order to decide on where best to put the words, I placed a sheet of acetate over a few sections:
I decided that it would be a good idea to put the words on both of these sections. I also decided that I was going to add some more bookshelf photos to create another layer of interest. This is the final result which I am much happier with:
